Dark Bohemian Carnival

MY sleep schedule is out of whack again, I thought I take this time to post an entry about the Dark Bohemian Carnival. It kicked ass. So many people. It was fun to meet and greet. Even better was it was a group show so I could relax and just enjoy. Carolina did an awesome job of curating, getting good work out of everyone and putting it together.

Some pictures.

I have a show tomorrow with two very talented artists.

I have been working with layouts a lot lately. The above flyer, a new business card, and I am designing the card for "Dark Bohemian Carnival" which takes place January 2nd. I'm thinking of putting together a graphic design portfolio for myself, because over the years I have done a lot and I do have fun with it.

I finished my commission's for Doris. I am getting them back, she passed away a couple months ago which is sad. She was fiery and intelligent. It will however be good to see my paintings again, their like old friends.

September 8th, 2007

Its been some time since I have posted in here.

Many many changes in my life all of them positive. More changes in my art life since the last post as well.

• I finished the "War of the Worlds" and have titled it "Holst". Its so beautiful.

• I started working on a painting, that I am going to title "Overwhelming Obstacles". I love the composition so far. It is a diner scene of a mutant octopus having lunch with a young maiden. Everything is going to be painted in a way that obstructs the beast. Even the young maiden is going to be looking elsewhere. I'm having a lot of fun with the concept, and have it all blocked in. I'm starting to get to the detail and glazing work.

• I've also been working on my sketches of Chief Matote and Chief Joseph portraits, and now that I have my thumbs all figured out I have been working on my sketches, which are almost finished pieces in by themselves.

• Last... but most exciting, I have a piece in a large group show at the gallery Launchpad in SE Portland. The show is called "Secrets". There is some really very interesting and diverse work in there, really all ranges and mediums in one space. Its is fun to look.

Here are some pictures from last nights opening:)

I'm still trying to work on my pen and ink. Its a challenge, its getting better which makes me happy. I really love this piece. I had to work on not overdoing it.

Good News Folks!

I am in a group show opening this April 5th! I'm excited not only is there a good curator there are some excellent artists. I think it is going to be a good show.

work from the six swans series
I finally got to paint in the studio. I just prepped an encaustic piece but it is a start. Its just so nice to melt the wax and get started. I love the transformation from a sticky soft to a glassy hard surface. To slide my carving tools across the surface, drawing.
Taking the wax and watching it melt
all over again. Little waste.

Here are my works in progress:

This used to be part of the Miss Corpus diptych. Took out the background which always bothered me. The background is almost done, I have more glazing especially in the right corner and middle. Now I am redoing her face, to make it more sculptural. Need to make aliens more alien:)

Our studio. This is a couple weeks old. Its gotten better in there. Still setting up, but once I am there it is pretty easy to work in there. There is this cat that was hanging around tonight, so cute and friendly, I was getting my pet fix.

Then there is me. A never ending process.

No sleep tonight

I hate my lack of time. Up again working away. I didn't get started until eleven pm tonight, grrr. I do love however working on two paintings at once. Both so very different. One to go directly to a private collection, the other I am going to showcase at a bar in SE Portland next month. The one about war of the worlds, the other portrait growing out of the canvas. The colors are really working together. I get tired of one and move on to the next. I must say these are both taking me a lot of time to do.

The portrait is getting pretty realistic. I don't like painting like this all the time but I am enjoying the exercise and am picking up some new tricks. Its good to really truley look at something or someone.

The one on war of the worlds is a revamp of an old one, the only thing the same besides a few splotches of color, is the hair. All else is gone, buried in blue, and metallic ships. It sounds so cheezy, and is in part inspired by pulp sci-fi covers, but Its lookin pretty good. I have lot more to do. face. arm. sky lights. snow. jacket. ship detail.

I can't wait til I actually have a day off to work on my art.
